Dr Teona Piranishvili

Dr. Teona Piranishvili is a human rights scholar and practitioner with expertise in Public International Law, International Human Rights Law, conflict resolution, and minority rights. She earned her PhD in Human Rights, Society and Multi-level Governance from the University of Padova in cooperation with partner universities in Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, and Australia. Her doctoral research concerned universal human rights application to the protracted conflict situations in Cyprus and Georgia. She also holds an Advanced LLM in Public International Law from Leiden University with a specialization in peace, justice, and international dispute settlement.

She currently serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Nicosia, teaching International Human Rights Law, and as Project Coordinator and Researcher at the Social Justice Center, where she has managed more than twenty projects focusing on human rights in conflict-affected regions, minority rights protection, and equality policy. Her professional background also includes several years as Senior Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, where she contributed to international legal negotiations, legislative reforms, and cooperation with key international organizations such as the UN, EU, and Hague Conference on Private International Law.

Dr. Piranishvili’s research address themes of human rights and peacebuilding, the protection of ethnic and religious minorities, and the role of international law in conflict transformation. She has presented at numerous academic fora, including the Cyprus Rector’s Conference Doctoral Colloquia, and her recent works explore EU engagement in protracted conflicts, human rights challenges in occupied territories, and innovative approaches to peace politics.
